Today we drink tea in my tea room, which is full of old things. Recently I found a Southern Song Longquan piece — very, very beautiful, classically Southern Song. I often set an old object on the table while I drink, put a few flowers in it, look at it a while.
The three-legged censer is Song as well; I light incense in it and set it there. Another censer is Japanese, made in the Song manner — the Japanese loved early Chinese culture. One little animal on the table I cannot even name or date. But it is beautiful, and it is good company.
Song, Ming, Qing — they sit on the same table and hold tea, ash, and flowers. Old things are not for cabinets. They are for using slowly, while the tea goes around.
